Especies como el vuelvepiedras oscuro, el ostrero negro norteamericano y el playero de los rompientes son \u00fanicamente encontrados en la costa Pac\u00edfica de las Am\u00e9ricas. Algunas de las aves playeras que viven en el Neotr\u00f3pico, tales como el chorlito piquigrueso y el chorlito patinegro, permanecen todo el a\u00f1o en estas costas, mientras que el vuelvepiedras oscuro, el ostrero magall\u00e1nico y el chorlito chileno realizan migraciones de cortas distancias entre sus sitios de reproducci\u00f3n y no reproducci\u00f3n. Los campeones de la Ruta Migratoria son las especies de aves playeras que anidan en el \u00c1rtico, por ejemplo, el playero de los rompientes y el zarapito trinador pueden viajar la longitud del continente americano desde sus sitios de reproducci\u00f3n en el norte del continente hasta sus sitios de migraci\u00f3n ubicados al sur del continente.<\/p>\n<p>No todas las especies usan la Ruta Migratoria de la misma manera. La aguja caf\u00e9, que anida en Alaska, en su migraci\u00f3n cruza la costa Atl\u00e1ntica de las Am\u00e9ricas despu\u00e9s de reproducirse y terminar en la costa chilena en el Pac\u00edfico durante el verano austral. De manera similar, la aguja moteada que se reproduce en la bah\u00eda James en Canad\u00e1, atraviesa Norteam\u00e9rica para pasar el invierno en la costa Pac\u00edfica de M\u00e9xico. La Ruta Migratoria tambi\u00e9n alberga poblaciones de aves playeras que no se reproducen en esta Ruta, tales como el Zarapito americano, el playero aliblanco y la aguja canela que anidan en las Grandes Llanuras de Norteam\u00e9rica y la regi\u00f3n Intermonta\u00f1osa del Oeste.
